North Quant Solutions

Sustainability

Our policy, our plan, and our numbers.

North Quant is an early-stage, remote-first company with one director, no premises and no vehicles. Three documents are published here in full: the policy the Director adopted, the plan that puts it to work, and the first annual disclosure with a complete greenhouse-gas baseline.

1. Purpose

North Quant Solutions Inc. (“North Quant”) is committed to conducting its business sustainably — minimizing environmental impact, treating people fairly, and operating ethically — in proportion to its size as an early-stage, remote-first software company.

2. Scope

This policy applies to the Director, all employees and contractors, and, where relevant, to North Quant’s suppliers, across all company activities and the delivery of its Solution.

3. Commitments

  • Environmental. Operate remote-first to avoid commuting emissions; select Canadian cloud regions with strong low-carbon/renewable profiles; use energy-efficient, right-sized compute; maintain paperless operations; and procure low-power, long-lived equipment.
  • Social. Provide fair, flexible and healthy working conditions; uphold diversity, equity and inclusion; and contribute to our community.
  • Governance and ethics. Act with integrity; comply with all applicable laws; and expect ethical conduct from our suppliers.
  • Continuous improvement. Set objectives, measure progress, and report annually.

4. Governance

As a sole-director corporation, responsibility for the sustainability strategy rests directly at the Board level with the Director, Murad Ali, who approves this policy, the associated Sustainable Development Action Plan, and the annual Sustainability Disclosure. This is the company’s highest level of oversight and is exercised directly, not delegated.

5. Communication

This policy is communicated to all personnel on adoption and to new personnel on onboarding, and is published at https://northquant.ca/sustainability.

6. Review

The Director reviews this policy at least annually and on any material change to the business.

Adopted by written resolution of the sole Director, North Quant Solutions Inc. — 2026-07-18.

Sustainable Development Action Plan

PDF copy Download the PDF

The Action Plan turns the policy into seven objectives. Each has an owner, a target date and a measurable indicator. Because North Quant has one director, accountability for every line rests with the Director.

Objectives, targets and indicators
#ObjectiveActionsTarget dateIndicator
1 Cut operational carbon Remote-first; choose low-carbon Canadian cloud region; right-size compute; paperless On adoption; reviewed quarterly Cloud region carbon profile documented; paper use = 0
2 GHG baseline and target Maintain annual GHG inventory (Scope 1/2/identified 3); hold an intensity-reduction target Baseline complete 2026-07-18; refreshed annually Baseline published; reduce emissions intensity 10% by FY2027 against the FY2026 baseline
3 Responsible procurement Apply sustainability, ethics and Canadian-content criteria; assess key suppliers Each procurement; suppliers reviewed annually Principal suppliers assessed = 100%
4 People and well-being Maintain flexible work, paid leave, mental-health support access Continuous Personnel with flexible arrangements = 100%
5 Diversity, equity and inclusion Maintain the DEI policy; apply inclusive, non-discriminatory hiring Continuous; at each hire Job postings screened for inclusive language = 100%
6 Ethics and grievance Maintain the Code of Ethics; operate a confidential grievance channel Continuous Reports acknowledged in 5 business days or less = 100%
7 Transparency Publish an annual Sustainability Disclosure Annually (first: 2026-07-18) Disclosure published on time = Yes

How it runs. Sustainability checkpoints sit inside two workflows. In delivery, the cloud region and the size of the compute are chosen at design time with carbon in view. In procurement, supplier sustainability, ethics and Canadian-content criteria are applied at selection. The Director reviews progress against these indicators quarterly and discloses results annually.

Sustainability Disclosure 2026

Full GHG methodology Download the GHG Baseline Inventory (PDF)

About this disclosure. This is North Quant’s first annual sustainability disclosure. North Quant is an early-stage, remote-first software company (incorporated 2024-05-01, Ottawa, Ontario) operated by a single director. Metrics are prepared in good faith, using estimation methods proportionate to the company’s scale, and will be updated annually. North Quant does not yet report against GRI or ISSB standards, and does not claim to.

Greenhouse-gas baseline (FY2026, good-faith estimate)

Prepared under the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, on an operational-control boundary. Full methodology, emission factors and sources are set out in North Quant’s GHG Baseline Inventory — FY2026, linked above.

Emissions by scope, FY2026
ScopeDescriptiont CO₂e/yr
Scope 1 (direct) No company-owned vehicles or combustion sources 0.000
Scope 2 (purchased electricity, location-based) Home-office electricity — 10% allocation of ~9,000 kWh/yr household use × 30 g CO₂e/kWh Ontario grid factor 0.027
Scope 3 (identified) Laptop embodied (amortized) 0.065; cloud compute 0.018; SaaS and digital 0.005; internet and data 0.001; transmission and distribution losses 0.002; supplies 0.001; business travel and commuting = 0 (remote-first) 0.092
Total ≈ 0.12 (~119 kg)

Key factors and sources. Ontario grid intensity 30 g CO₂e/kWh (Environment and Climate Change Canada, National Inventory Report; IESO 2021 supply mix ~91% non-emitting); laptop embodied carbon 260 kg CO₂e over a four-year life (manufacturer life-cycle assessments — Dell, Apple); data transmission 0.03 kWh/GB (Carbon Trust / IEA). Figures are conservative — cloud compute is costed at the Ontario factor even though North Quant’s primary hosting region runs on Québec hydro at roughly 1–2 g CO₂e/kWh.

What the number means. The footprint is very small and is dominated by embodied hardware and cloud compute; commuting and business travel are zero because the company is remote-first. For context, the whole-year footprint is roughly the emissions of driving about 600 km, or about 0.7% of one Canadian’s average annual per-capita emissions.

Reduction programme and target

Remote-first operations (no commute); low-carbon Canadian cloud region selection; efficient, right-sized compute; long-lived and low-power device procurement; paperless operations. Target: reduce emissions intensity (t CO₂e per full-time equivalent) by 10% by FY2027 against this FY2026 baseline. This is a good-faith operational target and is not an SBTi-validated science-based target.
